Obituary of Jean Mabel Weiss

WEISS, JEAN MABLE (nee Phillips) - Surrounded by family at Marshall Gowland Manor on Sunday, March 15, 2015, Jean Mable Weiss died comfortably and at peace at the age of 87. Beloved partner and best friend of J. Doug McFadden (and formerly her late husband Jack Weiss). Loving mother of Wayne (Laura), Warren (the late Sharon), Owen (Sherry), Scott , David (June), Alan (Michelle), Lynn (Greg) Mathieson, Paul (partner Michelle). Cherished grandmother of Janet (Jeff) Vince, and their children Matthew, Kyle, Jake and Brett; Heather (Dwayne) Whelpley and their children, Ryan and Lauren; Angela Scott, and her children Brooklyn and Harlee; Christopher Scott and his children; Brandon, George and Oliva ; as well as her great great grandson Liam; Parker and Sidney Weiss; Jennifer and Danny Weiss, and Tanis and Michael Mathieson. Sadly missed by in-laws Bill (Marion) Weiss, Geraldine (Weiss) Ziegler, Bob (Nancy) Weiss, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Violet & Ellwood Phillips and siblings, Stewart (Doris), Frank Phillips, Dorothy (Owen) Lockhart, Irene (Lloyd) Burley, Alex (Jean) Phillips, Harry Phillips (Mae), and grandson Justin Boudreau Weiss. Also predeceased by brother-in-law “Skip” David Ziegler, and sister-in-law Mary (nee Weiss) Heffron. Jean cherished family get-togethers and dinners, golfing with family and friends at Confederation GCC, and playing bridge with her sisters and sisters-in-law. She enjoyed her many trips to Florida, Mississippi and, in particular, the numerous vacations in Hawaii. Also important to her was the large social network she shared, including the comradery, dances and meat raffles at the Royal Canadian Legion. She loved a good house party with plenty of dancing and singing – a quality passed on to her children and grandchildren. Foremost in her life was her love of family – without a doubt. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. . A celebration of Jean's life will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to the many friends and relatives who visited, and to the doctors, staff and volunteers at Marshall Gowland Manor for making Mom’s lengthy stay as comfortable and pleasing as possible, under the circumstances.
