Obituary of Ian Gordon Riach

RIACH, Ian Gordon – Ian died peacefully at Bluewater Health on Wednesday, November 17, 2015 at the age of 88 after struggling with multiple health complications. Beloved husband and best friend of Mary Riach (McLellan). They became sweethearts while working at Polysar 37 years ago. Born on November 16, 1927 in Tomintoul, Scotland, Ian kept his homeland always close to his heart, especially the Highlands and his farming heritage. He was predeceased by his parents Isabella & Alexander Riach and close family friend Ara. Ian grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, proudly attending Cambridge University in 1948 and graduating from the University of Aberdeen as a Chemical Engineer. After travelling extensively and working abroad for several years he moved to Canada and settled in Sarnia. He retired from Nova Chemicals on December 31, 1991. Ian was an active member of the Sarnia Golf Club for many years. As a faithful and loving man he spent many hours with his sister and brother-in-law Catherine and the late Bruce Robertson and their children Dan, David, Douglas, Diane and Joe and their families and friends. Visitation will be at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, 4-7 p.m. on Thursday where prayers will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to The Canadian Cancer Society, 714 Lite St., Point Edward, N7V 1A6 (cheques only at the funeral home please).
